The main event related to dissemination and demonstration in the second period of the project was the Open Day in Douai on June17th, 2015, where prototypes were ready to be demonstrated for the wide public and professionals.
At the beginning of the day, the Mayor of Douai, Frederic Chéreau, explained to the citizens that were here for the presentation, the interest of the project for the city. Then, the CEO of DBT, Hervé Borgoltz, explained to the citizens the principle of the project, followed by the project coordinator for more precision. Posters were created for this specific event that was a milestone of the project. A questionnaire was distributed and persons that had answered all the questions right were able to drive two electric vehicles.
A "drawing contest" was organised for kids where the theme was "the car of the future" and took care of the few children that were there, interesting them on the issues of the car of the future and the city of the future. DBT and its 8 European partners were proud to present the first induction fast charger. The first demonstration was on the dynamic site where Douai citizens were able to see the FastinCharge vehicle drove above captors installed directly on the road, Avenue de Strasbourg in Douai, charging by induction during a few seconds until the stop sign that is on the end of that street.
The results that were showed that day were as follow. On the static charging, an efficiency of 90.5% was experimented, validating the success of the static charging when there is a perfect alignment between the primary and secondary coils. The communication between the different components (vehicle, user, charging station) worked fine and was experienced.
Concerning the on-route charging, the different coils show an efficiency between 90 and 91%. At a speed of 15 km/h. A test of electromagnetic field exposure showed also that right next to the car, at the level of the ground, the exposure don't go over 13.5µT which is very low, way lower the regulation and totally without danger. However, in the car, the magnetic field is stronger and particularly on the on-route charging, where electronics inside the vehicle can be disturbed. The static and the on-route charging versions were thus validated during the demonstration activities.
